Capital Cities of Central Europe

 Prague, Vienna, Budap est, Bratislava

Day 1, Prague
Arrive in Prague. Transfer from airport/railway station is upon request.  Check-in at your hotel. Overnight in Prague.


Day 2, Prague
The bus tour of Prague will start at the New Town with its focal point Wenceslas Square with St. Wenceslas statue,  We will drive by National Museum, and later enjoy the view of Prague Castle, Lesser Town and Charles Bridge.   Afterwards, you will have a walk through the courtyards of Prague Castle learning about its history, visiting the interior of its most important landmark, the St. Vitus Cathedral.  Then, the bus will take you through Lesser Town to Kampa Island.  Now you will walk across the Charles Bridge, and continue to Jewish Town and Old Town.  The tour will be concluded at the Old Town Square, famous for the Old Town Hall (the Astronomical Clock) and Tyn Church.   The afternoon is your leisure time to enjoy shopping or dinning in one of the many charming restaurants. Overnight in Prague.

Day 3, Prague – Vienna
After breakfast we leave for Vienna (305 km, 4 hrs).  Along the way we will enjoy the beautiful countryside of southern Bohemia. Leisure stop nearby the city of Znojmo. In Vienna check in at your hotel. The tour of Vienna starts early in the afternoon. We drive down Vienna’s Ringstrasse, a leafy boulevard encircling the heart of the city, along many important monuments and buildings such as the State Opera House, the Hofburg Imperial Palace, the museums of Fine Arts and Natural History, the Parliament, the Burg Theatre, the City Hall and the University. Overnight in Vienna.


Day 4,  Optional: Half day optional tour to Vienna Woods - Castle Liechtenstein - Seegrotte - Mayerling - Abbey of Heiligenkreuz - Baden. 

This morning we drive towards the peaceful Vienna Woods, passing through the former Roman City city of Baden, famous as early as Roman times for its sulphur springs and thermal baths. Later, we pass through the romantic valley ofl Helenental, to the former Mayerling hunting lodge, (visit of memorial chapel), where Crown Prince Rudolph together with Baronesse Vetsera died tragically in 1889.  In thge Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz (1133) where you will visit the medieval cloister which houses the remains of the last Babenberger.  We then pass the Höldrichsmühle and arrive at the Seegrotte. After a boat ride on the largest subterranean lake leave the Vienna Woods and return to Vienna via Castle Liechtenshtein (photo-op stop).  Then continue to Vienna.  Overnight in Vienna.

Optional evening program, Mozart & Strauss concert with dinner.

Day 5, Vienna – Budapest
After breakfast, leave for The Schonbrunn Palace and Park, one of the most important historical monuments in Austria. The whole complex, including the palace, the park with its numerous architectural features, fountains and statues, and  the ZOO – the oldest of its kind in the world – was placed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1996 (entrance fee to Schonbrunn Palace: ~$15).   In the afternoon depart for Budapest (approx. 280 km, 3,5 hours). Upon arrival in the City of Budapest you will check-in your hotel.  After lunch, the Grand Tour of Budapest will start.   You will see the impressive neo-Gothic building of the Parliament. Next, you will cross the Danube River on the Margaret-Bridge (Margaret Island) and drive to the Royal Castle on the Buda side, where you will also visit the Fishermens' Bastion and the Matthias Church. After the visit to the Citadel, you will cross Elisabeth -Bridge and drive through the City Park towards Heroes' Square and eventually pass by the Opera and St.Stephen’s Basilica. Overnight in Budapest.
 
Optional: Danube Boat trip. During the candle-lit boat trip the Operettaship Company founded by excellent singing, instrumental and dancing artists of the Hungarian State Opera House takes care of your entertainment. They sing and play the pearls of popular operettas, operas, Italian and Spanish songs, musicals in original languages as well as brilliant classical, step, belly and Hungarian folk dances in spectacular costumes. Overnight in Budapest.

Day 6, Budapest – Szentendre - Budapest
Optional, half-day trip to Szentendre. Museum of Hungarian Jewellery.
A short drive from Budapest to a picturesque Baroque artist's village called Szentendre. You will enjoy the special atmosphere of this village. While there, you will stop at the Confectionery Museum (Entrance fees: Marzipan Museum ~$5.50/person, ~ Margit Kovacs Ceramic Museum $5.50/ person) and will visit a collection of Hungarian Jewellery, which offers an insight into Hungary’s  1000 year long history of Jewellery making.  Overnight in Budapest.
Optional evening program: enjoy a Hungarian Folk Show, Hungarian-style dinner and folk/Gypsy entertainment program in Budapest.


Day 7, Budapest – Bratislava – Prague
After breakfast, we depart for Prague. We will drive through Gyor, one of the major cities of Hungary.  Later, in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, we will stop for lunch (optional). Bratislava is a medieval city with a thousand-year history, its architecture in Baroque style and a unique atmosphere. Between 1563 and 1830, the city was a site of crowning of the Hungarian kings. Bratislava – free walking time or lunch break. Next, we continue to Prague.
Overnight in Praque.
Optional evening program in Prague: State Opera or National Theatre (entrances tickets are from $23 to $85) or Vltava River Boat Cruise, including music and dinner.


Day 8, Prague
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport/railway station offered upon request.
